I was here about 2 weeks ago for my first and last time. It was a morning appointment and I was running late, I called to make sure it was still OK for me to come in or asked if I had to re-schedule , they said come in, I was happy with that since I have a very tight schedule. I check in 15 min later than my scheduled time, prepared with my insurance info and forms, it turns out no one communicated the receptionist about my lateness so she just looks at me then at the clock, I tell her I called and whoever picked up told me it was ok to come in. She let me stay and I proceeded to wait in the lobby area, little did I know I was going to have to wait for a long time. After 30 min of waiting someone came to let me know they were behind on x-rays, apologized then reassured me I was going to be seen soon. After 30 more min of wait, the same person comes to get me and places me in a room. Then someone comes to get me for x-rays, I tell her why? I don't need one, my ankle injury is about a year old, I clearly have no fractures or broken bones, if anything I need an MRI. She says "it's just protocol". I was like fine, I did not want to argue I wanted to find a solution to this problem I came for. After my x-rays are done, I am taken back to the room, then the PA comes in, asks me a few questions, then takes a look at my foot, she moved it around a bit, then set it down. Proceeded to ask more questions. her questions where general such as when did it happen, why, how long etc... I was never given a full orthopedic exam, I sure know what one looks like, because I was medical assistant. I was so distracted giving her as much information as I could, I forgot to ask about my x-ray and she didn't go over them either on her own... so why did I take x-rays again?... she suggests an MRI and a brace for now. I was like sure if they are covered under my insurance. She said they will be able to tell you. A man comes in with the brace and, I must of asked him several times if the brace was covered and he gave me responses like "most likely" and "most of the people with your insurance get it covered" it didn't sit right with me so I kept asking if he was sure, finally I asked the price $75 dollars for an ankle brace, when they are $15-25 at local drugstores, he tells me we can ask out in the reception area of they are covered, I go there with my brace on my foot already on and speak to a lady in the inside reception area, the lady tells me " it's your responsibility to call your insurance and find out coverage and if they don't cover, then you are responsible for the costs ,the item is non returnable" I was astonished, yes it is not mandatory for them to call but it is common courtesy if you care about your patients.I take of the brace and tell them I don't want it I am not settling for "most people are covered", she tells me that I am more than welcome to call my insurance, I just left, then I go to the check out reception and the lady tells me I need to schedule my MRI, I asked if it's covered, she says I don't know honey, they will check . I say I will call back later. This are the reasons why I am not coming back: lack of communication between team members is a recipe for bad customer service. The fact that my x-ray was not gone over, I shouldn't have to ask. Just like they did not ask me if I wanted an x-ray and they said it was "protocol", then it should be protocol to also go over the x-rays with the patient. The fact that the lady did not want to check for my brace coverage over the phone, this shows they rather keep doing other things than take care of patients needs. Final thoughts: I feel like place is money hungry. I was not properly examined, my x-rays were in the bill but not in the discussion. The generalized answers are just to get those who are willing to flip the coin. It just feels like I was not taken care of and it did not seem genuine. With the way healthcare is now a days we need doctors not only to take care of us but for staff to be willing to warn us of any extra charges.
