Customer Reviews about Bariatric Specialists of North Carolina

  • I've been going to this practice since March 2017, I have only had to wait once for the Bariatrician Dr. Z , way beyond my appointment time. I just cancelled and left. No issue. I just had my duodenal switch with Dr. Tyner last week. Doing well with recovery. All the the PA's and Dr. Tyner were attentive to my needs in the hospital. Never had issues with anyone in the office ever calling back or corresponding via emails. I would definitely recommend Dr. Tyner. He's been awesome.

Really can't say I'd recommend this practice to anyone at this point. It's been one issue after another. There are some amazing people here, particularly the sweet lady who checks you out - she's always kind and remembers my daughter. But the priorities here are not the patients. There seems to be a lot of carelessness and hassle with everything. I have been a patient here since June. I was shuffled around from doctor to doctor, every time I had to explain what the previous doctor had me doing, and each time the doctor would contradict what the other one said. Even though I have a condition that's known to cause metabolic issues no one wanted to look any further into it. Their plan was to prescribe medication to suppress appetite and see me once a month. Which is great if I lose the weight, but if there's another issue that's hindering me from keeping the weight off it would be nice to further investigate it - which is why I sought out a bariatric doctor in the first place, had I only wanted meds I could have just had my regular doctor prescribe them. At my last appointment I was given a prescription for an antidepressant instead of phentermine. Why a bariatric doctor would write a prescription for that in the first place makes no sense, and it's hard to see how that mistake could have been made. So after getting the wrong meds I call and they said someone would call me back. They did call back several hours later saying the correct prescription was sent to the pharmacy. It was the wrong pharmacy, over an hour away. Because they waited so late to call me by the time I had talked to the pharmacist and found out they sent capsules instead of tablets, the office was closed. The next day they did send the prescription to the right pharmacy but it was still capsules. It took four days to get it straightened out. Then today I had an appointment at 1:00. It was a hectic morning and I walked out of the house without my wallet. I didn't realize this until I was half way there, which is an hour drive. I called and asked if I could be seen and call to pay my copay when I got home. I was told that was fine. A few minutes later they call back saying they wouldn't see me without paying the copay. I kept being put on hold so they could talk to the manager, who wouldn't talk to me herself. I have no history of not paying them, I make a payment at every appointment. The manager just flat out didn't care. She had no consideration for the fact that I was driving two hours round trip with a 16 month old to be seen by them. Even the lady I was speaking to on the phone said she was being ridiculous. A little consideration goes a long way. Also, if you have a child that's accompanying you to appointments I would not suggest seeing Dr. Z. At our very first appointment with her comments were made because my daughter, who was 12 months at the time, was with me. She wasn't doing anything more than walking around the room babbling and at one point she touched the doctors shoe. Nothing that should have been a problem. But the doctor suggested I leave my daughter with someone for our appointments. And I'm sure that's a wonderful option on a doctors income, but is not always realistic and was completely out of line to even be brought up. Save yourself the hassle and money and find a different bariatric doctor. It's clear from the reviews there are numerous issues with this place.
